In partnership with Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, every 2nd Monday we'll be offering a musical instrument / production WORKSHOP & PLAYGROUND ~ BEFORE ~ IN THE WEEDS from 7-9:30PM to give you more of the sounds you love. Come make some noise with us! FREE & open to the public, all-ages welcome. :)

* WORKSHOP: TzT (PGH), Moog Minitaur and Theremini > 7:30-8:30, Gym
* IN THE WEEDS: Dermatone (PGH) > 9pm-12am, Lobby
WORKSHOP: Influenced by 90s avant-pop bands Stereolab & Broadcast, TzT is a musician and healer who styles toward the everyday psychonaut with spacey originals & beat-driven experimental pop and hip-hop mixes. In this workshop, she’ll show you how pocket-sized instruments and tiny hand gestures can pack a big punch, demonstrating the wide variety of sounds mini synthesizers can make across our space-time continuum. Coming in at 8.5" x 5.25" and less than 3lbs, the Minitaur delivers all the growl, snarl and low end of larger bass synthesizers in a rugged performance package that is small enough to take anywhere. There are no confusing menus to dig through; plug in a MIDI controller or hook it up to your computer and start playing immediately. And whether you're a performing musician or just have a taste for unusual instruments, you'll experience music in a whole new way with the Moog Theremini just by waving your hand and igniting the electricity within your body to create sound.
WEEDS: Dermatone got her start DJing vinyl with friends in the Midwest electronic scene. She became an avid coordinator of local music and arts events both in Madison and Pittsburgh. Through her exploration of sound and light, she has DJ'd around the US, most recently on top of a fire truck at Lakes of Fire, a regional burn in MI. She enjoys sharing her beloved brunch house vibe both as a member of gfx and as the founder of REBP. Please enjoy her wide selection of eclectic funky beats.

The WORKSHOP (7:30-8:30pm): we've invited local & visiting artist-educators to take inspiration from electronic music pioneers past & present in choosing a piece of gear from the library’s collection to share with you. They will show you the basics, along with some pro-tips & tricks to achieving that sound that may have been stuck in your playlist or between your ears. :)
The PLAYGROUND (7-9:30pm): CLP offers a special selection from their ever-growing instrument collection that you can play with at your own pace. Explore or perfect your skills in a chill atmosphere, and remember, you can always check out this equipment from the library to take home for more fun!
CLP: The Music Department at the CLP – Main Library has a growing collection of musical instruments and gear available for FREE check out and in-house exploration. The collection includes analog and digital synthesizers, drum machines, guitar pedals, microphones, ukuleles, a Moog Theremin and more.
