In partnership with Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, every 1st Monday we offer a FREE musical instrument / production workshop + DJ night to give you more of the sounds you love. All-ages and experience levels welcome.
/////// MAY 6: RAPID FLOWS ///////
WORKSHOP (7-9p): W00DY (Pittsburgh)
w00dy is a touring experimental live dance music artist. Her live sets consist of an Ableton powered setup through hardware. She writes music for the dance floor with the intention of creating a cathartic experience. The first half of her workshop will focus on routing sounds in Ableton through hardware equipment to access even more sonic possibilities. The focus will be on signal flow, using an audio interface, outboard effects, and an analog mixer. In the second half of the workshop, attendees are encouraged to bring works-in-progress and tracks that they'd like to share. It will be an open-dialogue critique and opportunity to provide/receive supportive feedback.
IN THE WEEDS (9p-12a): NANCY DRONE (Berlin)
Molly Gunn is an electronic musician based in Berlin recording and performing under the moniker Nancy Drone. Originally hailing from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she’s constructed an aural fantasy of swirling ambience, arachnid techno mutations and shards of percussive mayhem. Through collapsing structures and textural explorations, an amorphous bond between emotion and chaos is born.
/////// ABOUT ///////
The WORKSHOP (7:30-8:30pm): we've invited local & visiting artist-educators to take inspiration from electronic music pioneers past & present in choosing a piece of gear from the library’s collection to share with you. They will show you the basics, along with some pro-tips & tricks to achieving that sound that may have been stuck in your playlist or between your ears :)
The PLAYGROUND (7-9pm): CLP offers a special selection from their ever-growing instrument collection that you can play with at your own pace. Explore or perfect your skills in a chill atmosphere, and remember, you can always check out this equipment from the library to take home for more fun!
CLP: The Music Department at the CLP – Main Library has a growing collection of musical instruments and gear available for FREE check out and in-house exploration. The collection includes analog and digital synthesizers, drum machines, guitar pedals, microphones, ukuleles, a Moog Theremin and more.
