Now in its fourth year, Danse Macabre has established itself as the preeminent dark alternative Halloween party in Pittsburgh. Dark bands from near and far, gothic/industrial dancing, and a costume contest are always the three main ingredients, and we’ve whipped up a wicked brew for you this year.

Danse Macabre is presented by Night Sky Productions, which first started promoting dark alternative concerts in Pittsburgh in 1997. This will be the first year that Danse Macabre has been held at The Funhouse at Mr. Smalls, and the first time it has welcomed guests ages 18-20.

THE LONG LOSTS are a New York duo made up of vocalist Anka with her husband Patrick on guitar. Their music combines elements of goth and punk with lyrics inspired by their love for each other and all the things they love: autumn, Halloween, nature, romance, old ghost stories, and their own memories, all wrapped in a dark Victorian aesthetic.

The band began in 2012 with the creation of the song, “If Only Boris Karloff Was My Dad.” In 2014 they released their first album, Scary Songs To Play In the Dark. In Oct. 2017 they released their second album, To night…, continuing their tales of darkness and romance. You may remember The Long Losts from their Aug. 2017 Pittsburgh appearance, when they opened for Aurelio Voltaire, captivating the audience with their fun and spooky vibe.

CAROLINE BLIND was the singer and guitarist for the ’90s goth rock band, Sunshine Blind, which formed in New Jersey in 1991 and relocated to San Francisco in 1994. They released three albums between 1994 and 2003, and were known for powerful vocals and dark, guitar-driven rock that later moved more toward trip-hop and darkwave. In 1997, the band was infamously dropped as an opener for a Sisters of Mercy concert in Philadelphia because Sisters’ singer Andrew Eldritch thought they looked “too goth.” After Sunshine Blind disbanded in 2003, they released a best-of CD in 2007 and still reunite sporadically for festivals and special events.

Caroline Blind is currently working on solo material and collaborations with other artists and bands. She performs shows across the country, usually playing acoustic versions of Sunshine Blind songs and some covers. However, for Danse Macabre 4, she will do a full Sunshine Blind set! Caroline will be on vocals and rhythm guitar, with George Earth (ex-Switchblade Symphony) on lead electric guitar and Dave the Dramedy on bass.

ANGEL METRO blends the elements of heartbreak and hope to create an electronic sound nestled in dark magic. Based out of Charlottesville, VA, Angel was the frontwoman for the fairytale gothic rock band, Gild The Mourn. She now creates dark electronic pop under her own name. The first Angel Metro album, Dark Days Bright Lights, was released in January 2019. It has received widespread attention from underground radio and press, and the single Stranger Times was chosen to appear on a Cleopatra Records compilation of artists to watch: The Unquiet Grave 2019.

Angel finds her inspiration in horror, sci-fi, vintage Hollywood glamour, and high fantasy. Live, Angel is backed by drummer Mike K. Johnson (Ego Likeness, Spider Lilies), keyboardist Tom Lynch (Spider Lilies), and bassist Chad VanPelt (Spider Lilies). Danse Macabre 4 will be their first appearance in Pittsburgh.
