FRIDAY FEBRUARY 28
BUILDINGS/ Formed in 2006, BUILDINGS is a three piece from Minneapolis. Their music is loud, aggressive, and dynamic. Melt Cry Sleep was the band’s 2nd full-length, and the follow up to 2008’s self-released Braille Animal (recently reissued on doubleplusgood). Engineer, Jacques Waite (off with their heads, motion city soundtrack) and mastering engineer Bob Weston (shellac) perfectly reigned in the band’s furious energy, allowing room for the 10 tightly wound tracks on Melt Cry Sleep to breathe in contrast to their raw & visceral live sets.
Now the band will release its highly anticipated 3rd LP You Are Not One Of Us recorded in world famous Pachyderm Studios. Engineered by Nick Tveitbakk and mastered by Adam Tucker at Signaturetone Recordings, these 11 tracks show Buildings maturing into a band that can not only produce gut wrenching noise, but at the same time blur the lines that divide many rock sub-genres – punk, noise rock, post hardcore – and end up with a sound that is dynamic, raw, and absolutely massive. Nothing is held back in terms of energy and aggression, but it’s executed in a way that is entirely organic. Something that you can bang your head and sing along to.
BUMMER/ Bummer has packed a lot into those six years. The band has released four EPs and a 10-inch split, played local gigs almost every month, and toured to nearly every major city in the continental United States. It has played dive bars and basements and opened for some of the members’ major influences — acts like like Unsane and Big Business — and formed alliances with other young, like-minded noise-rock groups.
MICROWAVES/ Of innumerable bands that traffic in dissonance, the musick of Pittsburgh, PA’s Microwaves shears clean and hot as an oxy- lance through the defenses of even the most cynical noise rock aficionado. The trio plies a no-wave/prog-thrash scree that evokes the doings of today’s renegade wetware punks who shove glass-sheathed RFID chips and rare-earth magnets into fresh incisions. On Three One G records.
trvss/ A three piece band from Pittsburgh, PA who formed in 2018, from the looks of things. TRVSS play a killer style of music that incorporates elements of post hardcore, post punk, grunge, and noise rock within their sound. Musically, TRVSS can be loosely compared to The Jesus Lizard, Fight Amp, Drive Like Jehu, Exhalants, Pinko, and other like-minded bands. Absence is the band's debut LP, which was released on July 16th, 2019.
