Longturn Presents: DJ Seinfeld
swedish "lofi" house producerClub Night
Maverick 120 S Whitfield St Pittsburgh

On June 23rd we kick off the first of two events in one weekend at the Maverick Hotel for a midsummer night's dream. Our conductor and dream weaver for the evening is a pioneer of the lo-fi house scene yet touches on everything from UK Garage to breaks to down-tempo house and ambient. Swedish producer DJ Seinfeld has released multiple critically-acclaimed albums, seen support from many of the music industry's titans, played some of the biggest clubs and festivals across the world, and now joins us for a very special evening in the Gymnasium.
Dressing up is highly encouraged, but not required. The Maverick will be transformed into a mystical forest, a surreal dreamworld inhabited by mischievous fairies, whose playful games and debaucherous schemes vex us humans. Like Hermia and Lysander leaving Athens to elope in the forest, when you walk through the doors, you leave the real world and enter the realm of mystical absurdity. As you cross that threshold again at the end of the night you'll ask yourself, "was it all a dream?"
Starting the story this time will be a triumverate of talent. A Pittsburgh mainstay with deep crates of disco, house, and hoagies (also possibly spaghetti), Jarrett Tebbets. Next up is a household name in the DC house scene and a resident of the world-famous flash club, Jon Charles. Finally a crowd favorite returning from New York City to play a very rare lo-fi set, Joshua Orange!
Top tier lighting and production will be supplied once again by Rush Promo, four lasers by Tyler Boyken, and a full Hennessy Sound System rig by Northgate Labs.
Decor, design, and performance direction from the mind of Kayla McCormick.

Armand Jakobsson is the artist known as DJ Seinfeld, Rimbaudian and Birds of Sweden. Under these aliases you’ll find sweeping emotive cuts, verdant dancefloor workouts and discerning dips into jungle and breaks. Releases have come on respected labels including Meda Fury, Ectotherm, UN.T.O and Lobster Fury: the collaborative label from Lobster Theremin and Meda Fury begun for the explicit purpose of releasing his tracks.
DJ Seinfeld’s beats are ultimately guided by an idea of authenticity, true to the spirit of the early house pioneers and the unabashed rawness the confines of their equipment demanded. A lot’s been made of this lo-fi fuzz, with many clamoring to declare it a scene, but he won’t be put into a box. His path is his own. A microphone picks up the tension and release of a singer: charged with emotion, the machine can’t handle it. The rough edges of his productions emit the same sensibility. Footage of his gigs or their post-show reaction exemplifies the reception he gets as a DJ. Biographies often claim a DJ regularly ‘sends crowds into rapture’ or ‘lays waste to the floor,’ but in DJ Seinfeld’s case pandemonium is the default. Mixes show his deft control of build-up and feel in the booth, while his mini series for legendary London station Rinse FM in May ‘DJ Seinfeld presents...’, was a master class in the kind of wonky left-field house he peppers his sets with.
Armand began making music in Edinburgh at the suggestion of a respected friend. Time spent experimenting with music and exploring the possibilities contained within his laptop was cathartic relief from the grind of finishing his studies. Later returning to his hometown of Malmo, his interest in making music would intensify thanks to encouragement from his old school friends and a the looming spectre of a 9-5 lifestyle. A move to Barcelona and the end of a relationship resulted in extended sessions watching the classic American sitcom and the music made to reflect that appeared under the name DJ Seinfeld.
Rimbaudian already had traction and DJ Seinfeld was really intended as a side-project to exorcise emotions felt at that time. At first, tracks appeared on music-sharing groups online but he didn’t claim ownership, despite the growing buzz. When his friend Courtesy’s label Ectotherm began asking who the mysterious producer was, he began to take note. Then before long, Lobster Theremin and Meda Fury followed suit.
The point of no return though came one evening spent with Ableton and a few beers. The track ‘U’ was uploaded to Soundcloud, and the internet went into overdrive. Sampling Bob Geldoff’s account of his split with his wife, amid soaring chants and keys wrought in heartache, ‘U’ is almost voyeuristic in its honesty. It’s that truth, that realness, that defines what Armand’s music is about.
Rising to prominence in 2016 as part of the lo-fi house scene, DJ Seinfeld (whose name is a result of extended sessions watching the classic American sitcom after a breakup and move to Barcelona) released his debut album in 2017 and his first on Ninja Tune called 'Time Spent Away From U'. It gained attention from contemporaries like Flume, Flying Lotus, Bonobo and Four Tet and saw Seinfeld become a globally in-demand DJ playing sets everywhere from Glastonbury to Coachella, Warehouse Project, Sónar By Night and MoMaPS1, sharing stages with everyone from Jeff Mills to Stormzy, Underworld and Bicep as well as accompanying Disclosure on several dates of their US tour. In 2018 he became part of a select group of DJs that includes Moodymann, DJ Koze and Nina Kraviz when he was chosen to curate an edition of the iconic DJ Kicks mix series. To top it off, Aphex Twin began playing his track ‘Sakura’ in his live shows.
2019 saw Seinfeld launch his Young Ethics label with the ‘Galazy’ EP, which saw support from The Blessed Madonna, Gerd Janson, Jamie Jones and Maceo Plex as well as being preserved for cultural record in the Swedish Royal Library’s Archive For Sound. In the same year he also recorded an Essential Mix for Radio 1. Over the years Seinfeld has remixed Disclosure, Omar Souleyman, George Fitzgerald, Bob Moses, Honey Dijon, SHOUSE, Pendulum, Prospa, MJ Cole, Baltra and more.
In September of 2021, following his appearance on the cover of the July issue of Mixmag, DJ Seinfeld released his brand new album, 'Mirrors'. On release 'Mirrors' entered the Official UK Dance Albums Chart at #3 and the US Billboard Dance/Electronic Chart at #5 and now has 50M+ streams. The album is filled with all the emotional depth and musical dexterity of his past electronic luminaries. 'Mirrors' touches on everything from UK Garage to down-tempo house to ambient to breaks and is an at times tender, at times euphoric sonic journey with a producer slowly realizing his full potential.

In the era when America's Rust Belt got its name, factory workers labored on a 12-hour day or night shift for two weeks straight. To switch shifts, one group would have to work 24-hours straight and cover the labor gap. This grueling shift became known as the Longturn.
Longturn music was founded to give people with day jobs a space to spend their second shift. No bottle service, no passwords, just a dance floor filled with good people and good music.
Come early, stay late, dance hard ⚒
