Mattress Factory welcomes Margaret Cox for a live electronics performance, commissioned as part of Lydia Rosenberg’s exhibition, Do this while I wait, now on view at 1414 Monterey through December 2023.

Margaret Cox lives and works in Pittsburgh, PA. She is a really good listener. Her focus in electronic media while at Carnegie Mellon University and exposure to Pittsburgh’s experimental music scene fostered a lifetime interest in sounds. She enjoys noises, freezes, stutters and slips and has developed an enthusiasm for new instrumental techniques and the design of new instrument interfaces. In her performances, Margaret manipulates voice, field recordings, found sounds and electro-acoustic devices.

Her recent activities include soundtrack composition for part of Spang’s First Century: A Record of the Past, The Story of the Present, performing final shows at Collision, co-curating 2016’s Aftersound exhibition, and collaborating in electroacoustic duos TenderTails with Stephen Boyle and Nappetite with Anna Azzizy. She has shared bills with Wolf Eyes, Z’ev, Pharmakon, Tatsuya Nakatani, Audrey Chen, and No Triangle at venues including VIA, the Three Rivers Arts-Festival, Babyland, and the Warhol Museum.
