This Friday, we have another edition of Close to the Edge coming to y’all at Fat Cat!

If y’all missed the first edition last month, Close to the Edge is a (mostly) vinyl DJ night focusing on progressive and psychedelic rock from a hip-hop crate digger’s point of view. Expect the unexpected as we plunder our crates in search of the dusty, bugged-out sounds of the past.

This time out I’ll be joined by my good friend Liftgate (@benniedajet). Ben is a superlative producer, DJ, and sound engineer who draws on a breadth of influences. His debut album It’s All Love, It Always Has Been connects the dots between techno, jungle/ DnB, hip-hop, and, most pertinently to the theme of this night, prog and fusion. There are few DJs in the city better equipped to join me in the booth for this and I’m super stoked to listen to his selection of older prog & psych records and his own original productions!

On a final note, as you may be aware, Fat Cat will be closing at the end of the month. As much as I’m upset that a cool new spot will be closing its doors before its time, I’m committed to staying positive, going all out, and giving Fat Cat the best send off I’m capable of! If you were curious about this night last month and thought “maybe I’ll hit the next one”, this is your chance!

I will be continuing this night/ concept in some capacity going forward. Frankly, I’ve been having too much fun digging through this area of music to stop! Whether it’s as an IRL DJ night, a radio show, or a mix series- this will keep going. Thank you to anyone who showed this wild idea love, it’s noticed and appreciated! ❤️
