Duo Denum (NY), Mirror Trio, R. Mangold solo

DUO DENUM is Al Margolis (violin, clarinet, contact mics, things) and Tom Law (laptop, viol) They met in 2018 in Columbia, SC, when they shared a bill at Tapps Department Store. (Al was on tour with Jason Kahn, and Tom played an opening set with his fellow Occupant Gabe Madden.)

But they only began playing together in 2021, after Tom had moved from South Carolina to New York, and Evan Lindorff-Ellory brilliantly suggested that the two perform as a duo in a show he was producing at Opus 40. That show worked out pretty well, so they've continued with the idea.

In July 2022 they began a series of collaborative improv concerts with guest artists at Green Kill Gallery in Kingston NY. That series continued until June 2024.

Al Margolis is a composer/performer, improvisor, and painter. Since 1984, often under his project name If, Bwana, he has worked in the field of non-commercial, non-popular music and sound. If, Bwana
Tom Law is a composer/improviser from Saugerties NY who performs laptop-based electroacoustic music with viola da gamba. In addition to Duo Denum, he also performs with Renaissance Noise Restoration, a Baroque/noise/improv duo.
