Lesley Rankine started out in London as lead singer for indie punk band Silverfish, who were on Touch & Go Records in the US. The band stood out from many of their indie scene contemporaries with a lineup that was mixed in terms of both gender and ethnicity and a setlist that was liberally strewn with expletives. Their song "Hips, Tits, Lips, Power" became a known anthem during the riot-grrl era and they toured with 7 Year Bitch.

Then Lesley went solo as ruby from '94. Reaching a wide audience with the album Salt Peter, the single “Tiny Meat” became an alternative radio staple.

Lesley draws from all the parts of her divergent musical career in ruby’s new music. Eclectic as ever, she continues to progressively use technology in song-crafting.
