Crucible Sound Improvisation Workshop #2
improv performance workshopCrucible Sound series Pop-up
Union Project
All Ages $0 / $5
This open workshop is an opportunity for musicians who want to develop their skills in improvisation, practice improvisation in a new setting, connect with other local improvisers, or extend out of their comfort zone. With any luck, it may even be a catalyst for new groups and collaborations to form.
All experience levels and backgrounds are welcome. The only requirement is an interest in improvisation.
Bring your instrument and any amplification you may need (sorry, we unfortunately can't provide a house PA for this one). We'll do (at least) two rounds of improvising. For the first round, we'll pick names out of a hat to form trios and play for ~10 minutes per group, depending on the number of participants. For the second round, we'll shuffle into different groupings (not necessarily trios). There may be other shenanigans as time permits. For this second workshop, Crucible Sound organizer Anthony Levin-Decanini will provide a couple of prompts: concepts to consider and interpret as we're improvising.
Schedule for the workshop:
7:30 PM Setup & soundcheck
8:00 PM Introduction
8:15 PM First round (ad hoc trios) start
10:00 PM Music ends, cleanup
Suggested donation of $5/person goes toward renting the space.
We'll provide a few beverages, but it doesn't hurt to byob.
Crucible Sound exists to promote openness, freedom, actively listening to each other, reflecting on our commonalities and differences, connecting deeply, and creating things together which are unexpectedly beautiful. It's made up of the collective creativity and good faith of all its participants, musicians and listeners alike. Crucible Sound stands against bigotry, misogyny, xenophobia, and violence, now and forever.
