Honoring Black Herstory Month and queer family stories of reconciliation from the diaspora, the Carnegie Museum of Art will host a screening of the documentary film “A Mother Apart” by Laurie Townshend.

The film is a radical re-imagining of family and motherhood. The 89-minute documentary chronicles the international quest of award-winning Jamaican poet, author, and performance artist Staceyann Chin to find the mother who abandoned her in her youth and forge a healing relationship.

The event is presented with a follow-up discussion and refreshments in partnership with Black Unicorn Library and Archive, Carnegie Museum of Art, Doc Salon, Dreams of Hope, Pittsburgh Sound+Image, and Sibyls Shrine.
