Saturday, July 11 | 7 - 10 PM | Program begins at 8 PM
$10 General admission
Free for:
🖼️ Mattress Factory members
🏫 University of Pittsburgh students
🎞️ Pittsburgh Sound and Image members
What fades, erodes, or slips from view leaves behind traces and impressions, taking new form.
Presented in conversation with rebecca shapass’s current exhibition "tempus fugit," we bring together film and poetry to attend to the unseen: the mechanics of the body, the residue of spirit, and the uncanny vitality of matter in decay.
This multimedia program features a live reading by Cate Peebles from her Bram Stoker Award–nominated book "The Haunting," alongside screenings of Barbara Hammer’s film "Sanctus," Takashi Ito's "Ghost," Deborah Stratman’s "The Magician’s House," Phil Solomon's "Remains to be Seen," and Wenhua Shi's "Die Nacht" (Dedicated to Phil Solomon) all on 16mm prints. Together, these works meditate on preservation, disappearance, and metamorphosis.
Afterimages: A Phantasmagoria is generously supported by the Horror Studies Center at the University of Pittsburgh and co-presented in collaboration with Pittsburgh Sound + Image. Program curated by rebecca shapass. PGH Sound and Image members should reach out to PSI to claim their tickets.
Get your tickets at the link in our bio.
Doors at 7 PM. Guests are welcome to view "tempus fugit" from 7 - 8 PM before the program begins at 8 PM.
