DJ ActionAlpha is a lifelong lover of music who has been collecting vinyl since the early 90s. She’ll never forget when one of her high school friends handed her a mixtape called Unexplored Territory and Other Family favorites which included The Church, The Cure, The Jam, Easterhouse, Everything but the Girl, The Jesus and Mary Chain and Bauhaus. That tape changed her life. Always identifying with the underdog, she has always found great support in punk rock, lo-fi, dark and experimental music - as an enthusiast and a member of the early 90s punk scene in Kalamazoo, MI. To her delight, after moving to Pittsburgh in 2019, she discovered Pittsburgh’s incredible music-loving culture. She’s never looked back. She has honed her vinyl DJ skills since early 2022 after learning at a Pittsburgh Record Night. She created a femme-forward all vinyl DJ night called Weird Mothers in late 2022 and, for the last year, has produced and hosted a weekly Weird Mothers show on RadioCrown.com. She is incredibly excited to be part of Midnight Veil to showcase the ever growing portions of her dark and downtempo femme-forward vinyl collection and to create deeper connections with other music lovers.

DJ Poptone has been a vinyl DJ in Pittsburgh for the past 7 years, having been featured at establishments such as the Poetry Lounge, Whisper Nest, Hard Rock Café, Kelly’s Lounge, Brillobox, Thunderbird Café, Bottlerocket, Spirit, the Government Center, Trace Brewing, Tiki Lounge, and many more, as well as at festivals such as the Pittsburgh Cannabis Fest and Millvale Days. He co-founded the Factory Night party at Whisper Nest/Poetry Lounge, and has been a frequent collaborator and guest for Evolution nights.
While covering many genres, Poptone’s first and fiercest love is for classic British post-punk, synth, and assorted left-of-center indie and alternative dance, with tastes informed by non-musical artists such as David Lynch, Thomas Ligotti, and JG Ballard. Expect everything from Cabaret Voltaire to the Chromatics, Scott Walker to Wire, Joy Division to Japan, and too many others to mention.
