Off the Altar: Ceramics Workshop

Her subtly marked surfaces are uniquely textured with soda-firing, an unpredictable and time-intensive atmospheric firing process mirroring the quiet labor of inheritance. Drawing on legacies within her family, Smith connects the symbolic language of Black foodways through everyday objects, dedicating her domestic wares as sites of remembrance.
