The Gymnasium | East Liberty | Ages 21+

Longturn is turning 6 years old at the end of October so we decided to throw a massive techno Halloween party on October 27th, the first night of Halloweekend, for our last event at The Gymnasium this year. To celebrate this occasion we have our very first ever double headliner techno event with two artists on the forefront of the genre, Atroxx and Brennen Grey!

The two fit the bill perfectly, with Brennen Grey’s high energy, deep, driving techno and Atroxx’s aggressive, industrial-style bass-lines blended with ear-pleasing grooves.

Starting the night's festivities we have Jak, no stranger to an LT techno show, having opened for Sam Wolfe earlier this year, and making her Longturn debut, White Sabbath!

Halloween is one of the oldest traditions in the world as it touches on an essential part of the human condition: the relationship between the living and the dead. The observance evolved from ancient rituals marking the transition from summer to winter. Every civilization has created some form of ritual focused on what happens to people when they die, where they go, and how the living should best honor those who have crossed over.

Modern-day Halloween shares in this ancient tradition, but some aspects can be traced back to the Celtic festival of Samhain, the Celtic New Year festival. The name, pronounced soo-ween or soo-when, means "summer's end", and the festival marked the close of the harvest season and the coming of winter. The Celts believed that the veil between the worlds of the living and the dead was thinnest at this time and the dead could return.

Samhain’s rituals included stocking up supplies for the winter, slaughtering cattle, and disposing of the bones in "bone fires" which came to be known as bonfires. Communities gathered to feast and drink, but they were aware of the "thin time" of the year and the possibility of otherworldly visitors showing up at the party. In order to deceive the spirits, people darkened their faces with ashes from the bonfires, which later developed into wearing masks.

While there will be no bonfire at the event, costumes are highly encouraged! No need to copy the fashion of 3rd century Celts, feel free to wear last year’s costume, just a mask, something scary, or something topical.

Top tier lighting and production will be supplied once again by Rush Promo, four lasers by Tyler Boyken, and a 4-point Paraflex Sound System by Wave Motion Sound.

Decor, design, and performance direction from the mind of Kayla McCormick.

In the era when America's Rust Belt got its name, factory workers labored on a 12-hour day or night shift for two weeks straight. To switch shifts, one group would have to work 24-hours straight and cover the labor gap. This grueling shift became known as the Longturn.

Longturn music was founded to give people with day jobs a space to spend their second shift. No bottle service, no passwords, just a dance floor filled with good people and good music.

Come early, stay late, dance hard
